Ok, so I've been away from the fishkeeping hobby for a while after recently losing the centerpiece fish and others, but I stopped by my lfs and was just completely reinvigorated and wanted every fish there, but there are a few that I'm really interested.

So heres my setup, I have a 30g long. Used to have an angelfish and two serpae tetras, then I had a green sunfish who also died (sucked up in the filter :( ). All along I've had these 3 pictus cats about 3 inches long each that have been champs and are still healthy. The pictus cats are now the only fish in the tank.

preferred fish: senegal bichir, angelfish, small knifefish, small plecos (rubberlip is favorite :D )

I was wondering if you guys could give me ideas of combinations of those types of fish that would work in my tank. Please nobody suggest I get a bigger tank as I won't be upgrading any time soon, I just want suggestions on what can work with in my current setup. I would like as many opinions/suggestions as possible. Thanks guys.

Senegal bichir could work in a 30g long. A liiiiiiiittle small, but it will be fine.

Angelfish will probably work.
As for a knife-probably an brown knife-but keeping all 3 of these in a 30g is pushing it.

A rubberlip will do fine in 30g.

thanks for the suggestions, and I know they won't all work in the 30g, thats why i didnt say i wanted them all. i just wanted to give people a rough idea of the type of fish i like.

Also, what about featherfin catfish? they are awesome :D

african butterfly fish.

charax gibbosus (poor man's payara w/o the size & fangs basically)

the end-all mini thread will have you drooling at a few of the things they have.

i just checked out the charax gibbosus and they are AWESOME. I wonder if they are carnivores/predatory?

Also, what is their common name?

The Angels would be a good choice, too, but I'd only keep one pair. I've had my pair attack other angels in my 110, so I wouldn't try more than one pair (or one, if you can't find a pair). They can be really aggressive when they get older. If you did keep a pair, though, you'd have plenty more room to add a school of fish and some bottom-dwellers, so it would be an active tank, for sure.

school of what type of fish?

Wow, there are so many choices! Any tetra that aren't fin-nippers... Cardinal and Rummynose tetras would be excellent choices. Check out the tetras on a site like liveaquaria.com, and then research them to find out out what each tetra is like, their negative and positive aspects, etc. Hatchets are really cool, and would provide action at the top of the tank, as well as nice shape to contrast with the shape of a tetra-type fish and the angels. Just look for a tetra that enjoys the same water type (ph, temp, etc) as your angels, if you're building your tank around them.
