well,
i think you should look at popular sites to realize how large these fish are going to get. if i were you i would be looking at blue cobalts, johannis, yellow labs, and albino cichlids. the fish you are looking to keep are to big.

LOL:ROFL:Are you saying this site isn't popular.

Male GT fully grown would be pushing it for a 12" deep tank

I"d say 55 would be the bare minimum. Not all GT's grow to 12". My male of 8 years died at 10". He started out in a 55 but I moved him to a 156 later.

I used to have a GT and he was my favorite fish but almost destroyed my oscar so I had to get rid of him

Here my opinion:

Ditch the midas/rd, I have a 120 that couldn't house a midas/rd without stressing the entire tank out. Wait until that fish gets to 7 inches, they go insane.

Option 1: Keep the GT, they are absolutely some of the coolest fish ever IMO. Get a couple of pictus cats and grow that puppy out. This would be best in a 75, but a 55 will do IMO.

Option 2: Keep the JD and add a pair of convicts or firemouths. I had a female JD with with a pair of cons that did great in a 55.

If I had to choose today, I would keep the GT. My JD seemed to like its cave and wasn't out as much as GT's that I have seen. My neighbor currently has a GT that is 4-5 inches and absolutely stunning.

If you are like most of us, one tank isn't enough. You might start checking around town for a used 75 or bigger. So many fish, so little space!!!

You are more likely to see better interaction with a GT, I have a group of young GT's that I am trying to pair off and a 5" JD. The JD is more timid in comparison wheras the GT's will eat from your hand.
Can't comment on the midas i'm afraid

I have a 55g tank and plan to stock it with one of these cichlids:
-Midas
-gold saum/ green terror
-jack dempsey

I think the Midas should have a bigger home. 55g when full grown might seem cramped.

The other two you could keep together in the tank (although I had to give my dempsey to a friend a few weeks ago because my female gold saum was beating her so bad).
