Spend more time with your oscar he will perk up.

And just out of curiosity because I have heard of owners "spending time" with their oscars....what kinds of activities should I do with my oscar? That would be a great addition to my interactions with him/her so far to lessen his/her apparent depression. :)

I sit and stare at him. Sometimes I'll act like a big cichlid and confront him with my face. You can also wiggle big rubberbands or toss them around gently, he'll think they are worms. And always sit and watch a few minutes before and after feeding. Probably 20 minutes a day total for me, aside from watching the tank from the recliner...

Cool. Thanks for the info. I will definitely try that. I do often watch him since he pretty much is my favorite fish. But I will make sure to be more active with him during meal-time.

Thing is, in a 29g, there isn't enough room for a big fishie to claim it's territory. Aggression is increased tenfold in small settings. Any of the larger, more territorial fish will have problems in a smaller tank dealing with each other, which is why there was a problem with your O and the koi. Quite possibly if you got that 125 the O and the koi could coexist. :)

Awesome. Thanks for the input guys. I am going to wait until I get my 125g before I stock up on fish. :) I will get that within the next month and let it run for a few weeks so the bacteria cultures grow well enough to sustain the fish population. I appreciate all the advice. Thanks a bunch.:D

i would go with a green terror or a dat would work fine too. you will need a bigger tank eventually but it would be cruel to add a 3-4" gt or dat now knowing you will need to upgrade soon. keep up on water changes and watch amonia levels. good luck
