Need pics of P. Retropinnus for ID purpose

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If that is the case, I think we got retros. I am a little confused on the patterning, but the pattern on mine is the same as yours. Still waiting to get pics of this fish.

Yes, its a retro. I have two and they look exactly like this. In dark tank, they will turn completely dark green. They are usually elusive and will hide in DW all day and night. Its an elongated bichir. They are also known as zaire green.

Well, if hiding is a factor, this one is definitely a Retro. It's been under a piece of driftwood for two days! I have not noticed any aggression toward it, so I am thinking the hiding behavior is natural.

here is my retropinnis aka. zaire green.......

Yep you definitely have retro's as they look exactly like the two that I have. On a dark substrate they get really green and on lighter substrate they kind of look like Palmas Polli except for the eyes. The two species have totally different looking eyes.

more like an elongated version of P. palmas polli.

yeah eyes are different. retropinnis has this radiating line pattern surrounding the eyes.

other than this, like CDM said, retropinnis is much more elongated. Also, the two species have totally different head shape.

Shorter/smaller tail fin too

Finally snapped a pic of this fish, but a bad one. Tell me what you think.
