Need quick advice on Tenecor tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a tank with the exact dimensions you are wanting. It is made with 1/2" and it bows pretty bad. It holds, but it bows like crazy.

Thank you. When you hear this from someone that owns what you are thinking of getting, it is well listened to advice.

If you like acrylic, go with either SeaClear or TruVu. My 180 gal TruVu is 20+ yrs old and not one problem along with my 75 long and 125 tanks. TruVu will custom any size tank you want.

I think tenecor must have realized that 1/2 was too thin for 30" high because a few months ago I got a quote from them for a 120"x36"x30"H and the material quoted was 3/4".
I don't believe they make 30"H tanks out of 1/2" anymore.

I have seen a 120"x24"x30"H and the amount of bowing on it was insane...really scary stuff (think water balloon).

I would personally not buy a 30"H tank made out of 1/2", especially if you plan on setting it up in your house...garage might be ok if you get a smokin' deal on it and you don't have a lot of stuff that would be damaged in the event of a blowout.

FWIW, I tried to get a quote from Truvu on a 10' tank and they said they would only do 8' long.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to not get it and wait to I speak to MidWest. This will be my first acrylic tank and it just deal feel right with all the research that I have done - going with a 1/2" versus a minimum of 3/4"

What do you mean by a lid without handles? Did it not have the extra strips of acrylic glued to to the sides so that it wouldn't fall through the opening, or did it just not have a handle in the middle?

My lids are just a piece of acrylic with 2 strips welded onto the the side (overlapping the edge) so that the lid sits flush in the tank. Hard to explain...here's a pic:

Funny, I have a Tenecor 300 gallon 8x2x30" 1/2" Acrylic and haven't had a problem with any Bowing, as a matter of fact i haven't had any problems with it so far.....(knock on wood)
