alright. another quick question to help figure out the end of the filtration set-up for this sump. the hoses have me confused. using someone elses plumbing set-up with my own sump build.

so so far the set-up he has has two drains and two returns .. behind overflows in the back corners (holes in bottom) of the tank. .. they go to the bulkheads, then there are two valves and two just connections to the hoses. I'm assuming the valves are meant for the drains and the regular connections are for the returnes. .. i'm pretty sure on that but someone might be able to tell me different.

the real question comes in after this .. at this point he just started using hose to connect the rest but im confused as to how he had the hoses ran. with that situation kept in mind ^ (assuming im right) .. how does this make sence to everyone:

he has three hoses .. a pretty long black one (he had sump on a lower floor so i will be cutting the hoses a little to accomidate the in stand sump) that splits into a y. so this hose works for either the two drains or two returns?? ..

then he has two more hoses .. on just general black one straight black one.

the third hose is a black hose .. until it hits a valve then connects to a clear hose.

im pretty confused on how he worked these hoses. any ideas?

Any chance of posting pics?

i wish. hah, it'll be a little bit before i can snag some pics. i have pics of my whole tank progress on my phone which ill be posting a thread for but i have to wait for my new cord to get in to connect the phone to laptop. and the gf's camera is on the outs at the moment (even though i just got it for her 2 months ago, its gone for warranty work).

hoping someone can randomly understand what im saying. if not ill have to wait till my cord comes in to get help. im not the best at explaining since i know nothing about it obviously :(.

any chance someone understand what i described?

How about an MS Paint drawing?

alright. the pic isnt much better. haha the tank is the top thing obv .. the 4x pvc pieces are comming down from behind the overflows. then i have the valve and connection on either side (the words are pvc (where the 3/4" i believe pvc connects) and hose starts, which is the connection for the start of the 3/4" hose which has clamps on every end)).

then theres the three hoses .. any questions about the pic?

If it was mine, shut offs would be on the drains.
I would run 2 lines into the sump.
Single line out of the pump, to the “Y”.
Lines from the “Y” to the return fittings of the overflows..

yah that makes sence .. since i dont know how i would hook two hoses up to my pump, i just thought of that, without buying a conection which he obviously didnt have . i just dont get why the two drain hoses are different and one has a second flow control valve.

About the valves; Are they a valve that you can manually close or are they a check valve which lets water flow only one way?

Are the both the return and supply lines the same size? Generally the return lines are smaller.

If the overflow stand pipes are set up properly having shut off valves on the drains is not needed.
