That's what I've heard too...

I still have that thought in the back of my mind of how tragic it would be for the joists to give out... Where the tank is going is right above the living room couch.
 
have you ever had 3/4 of your friends come over and hang out in that room and not fall through the floor, then youll be fine.

Pretty bad comparison - 3 or 4 friends don't stand in the exact same spot for years.
 
i have a 70 running parallel to joists on outside wall. i have a 55 parallel in the center of house. i have a 75 and 30 side by side on another wall. yes, the tank is 500 lbs, but not all on one spot. the weight is spread out across 4ft and then deflected by flooring and the floor joist. youll be fine.
 
I wouldn't worry about it at all. Even if, and only IF the weight is too much for the joints to handle, you will notice the problem and have enough time to relocate the tank before the actual tragedy happens (ie. water level uneven, etc.)
