i dont think that ray looks skinny anyhow. for info the earthworms are called nightcrawlers in some countries if it helps but im sure you have some slimy wiggly critters in the soil near you ... its them !
i use earthworms / nightcrawlers chopped up real small for new pups. cutting them up real small serves a few purposes. theres more so the ray has to search more. if theres more than one ray then its easier for others to get some if you have a super greedy one and chopping small means that some bits wont be moving and so help get it used to eating non moving food.
