i am getting 6 baby orinos from snookn21 and they will b here next week..they are roughly 2''..my question is i dont really want to feed them live fish at all unless i have to..if i dont feed them feeders what kind of food should i use? any tips/advice are welcome..

Live Black worm is a good alternative..

Fish fillet from the market. Mine took those but you have to train them. Pump them up with feeders before you start to starve and throw in fish fillets. Once one start taking the rest will follow. But do take note... i have 3 orionos and there is one stubbon mule who wont take fish fillets no matter what. Now the other 2 is almost twice as large as him. Am still starving him

In my opinion orino's are the easiest to train. Start w/ frozen bloodworms. After 3 days or so of feeding the frozen bloodworms.....try and feed a good 3x a day to get them used to you....feed in the same spot everytime. After the 3rd day or so start crushing in some hikari cichlid gold sinking pellets. Add a little more each time. Dont just dump em in either...feed a little at a time. I bet by 2 weeks they will be eating pellets. This method has worked great for me.

thx bro..i will get some before the orinos arrive..

yea agreed, when i odered my orinos from snookn they were the same size and ate the hell outa frozen blood worms. never got them on to the pellets though. they love market shrimp now and at close to 9" each i can feed them pices of it big enough to stuff the pellets in now, so its a no worry for me anymore..

dont feed any live....none at all! Atleast until they are trained.

Do the bloodworm and pellet method Mike. It works great!

I use the same method as gangster but instead of sinking cichlid gold I use hikari food sticks they are easier to crush and softer so the bass seem to take them easier. I agree orinos are really easy to get on pellets, I am not even sure I had to trick mine they took them the first time I offered them
