Need some advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Got a better picture of the guy.
Definitely not so camera shy today ?
I'm so happy that he's feeling better enough to get out and about and not hide in the back corner. Heading to the store now to get the flower pots and shrimp.
I'm going to continue to keep the lights off for his comfort. I'll keep you guys updated.

Well, I caved. I moved the fish to a bigger tank. Definitely not stressing as bad as I thought. She (I'm assuming based on internet) was out exploring and checked out the caves. I'm going to go ahead and switch over to general cure as well.
I'm wanting to say that activity is better, but overall body condition doesn't seem to be improving all that much to me and still no appetite.

I don't know if anyone is still following this, but I wanted to leave an update just in case anyone wants to know.

This amazing fish ate her first meal this morning! I ordered the vitamins, but they came in busted open and leaking everywhere. So I'm waiting for the replacement bottle.
She's getting a bit of an attitude as well, she flared at me yesterday lol.
All of the red sore looking spots have turned brown and are starting to shrink. I'm super proud of this little fish.

I seriously cannot thank you guys enough for the help that you gave. She probably wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the advice. I'm hoping to leave more positive updates in the future and I'm really hopeful that I can leave a gorgeous picture of her all healed up and in her own personal permanent tank soon. ?

Finally, here is a picture of her this morning. She's being a bit grumpy and racing to her flower pots every time I go into the room, so it's a bit difficult to get a good picture of her current condition. The water is a bit cloudy, but we're due for another water change today.

I'll continue to post updates as they happen.

So, my Jack Dempsey has taken a turn for the worse. She has stopped eating again and has smooshed herself up against the back of one of her flower pots.
I don't understand this because everything has been going so well. The only thing I can think of is my cats might be jumping on the tank and stressing her out, but I haven't seen it happen yet. Either that, or extended medication treatments are getting to her?
I'll post up water test results as soon as I get them done.

Okay, current test results from API master test kit:
Ammonia: 0.25 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: between 0 and 5 ppm

I do 75% water changes every other day to every 2 days, and the last water change was yesterday.
I understand that the tank is not fully cycled. I pulled filter media from my Oscar tank to help jump start the cycle. (The bag of ceramic rings in the previous picture).
I use prime every time I do a water change.
I will increase water changes if you guys think that's what is needed.

I'm going to kick the cats out of my room.
I'm going to get her some more flower pots today too. Maybe it'll help? I just really don't want to lose this fish. I've become quite attached to her.

Add some fake floating plants/ vines. I'd put a skim of sand on the bottom to reduce all the reflection and glare. Couple piles of smooth stones too. If necessary tape a piece of cardboard to the sides. May have to go with a higher dose of prime to get that ammonia under control. Good luck!
