Texas cichlids are similar to the convicts in how easy it is to breed. You can get four to six and they'll eventually pair off(my paired killed the other two that I bought)
Once they paired they mated n made babies( I didn't plan it this way)
Since I have specifically read up on this and it says to keep quick/ fast moving fish for the male to chase during mating so he doesn't kill his mate. I have now had four or five different spawns of babies.
I did remove the majority of one spawn... BUT as I understand it Texas cichlids are very good protectors.
My "quick" Fish include a frontosa and a Chinese algae eater.
I'm not saying change what you were going to do but I feel Texas cichlids grown are better looking than convicts. But to each their own
Oh yes keepin your water temp warmer than usual helps too( not a lot just a lil)
