need some flowerhorn ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldnt plan keeping a flowerhorn in a 55 for life ESPECIALLY if your not completely positive its a shortbody even then i personally wouldnt but i guess it could be done. My FH is 13" now by himself in a 75, i wish i had gone bigger with the tank though.
Also as a general rule as stated there really is no such thing as a non agressive FH. Heck mine has always killed anything i tried to put in there with him. He killed a 7-8" pleco when he was just 3" and beat the **** out of any other cichlids i added even much larger than himself til i finally gave up, they are definately solo fish lol.

I don't have that Problem with mine i got mine at 2in and he is in a 125 gallon with 2 cuban cichlids 1 female freddy 2 red devil/ parrot hybrid fish right now and he fights with my smaller cuban and puts her in the cornor but doesn't try to kill her or anything else in my tank

Theres other cichlids that are just as nice as flowehorns for a 55g especially if ur looking for something thats NOT aggressive.
what are they called cause i like FH alot so something close to them will just be as perfect

Well german blue rams are beutiful with yellow blue and spangles like flowerhorns. some gymnogeophagus species , electric blue rams, kribensis, dwarf cichlids.

55 gallon initially will be more than fine but a adult flowerhorn will reqiure 100 gallons. King kamfa's are a good breed. You can go for good quality pearl or red dragon flowerhorn. After attaining 4.5-5 inch feed it regularly with oceanfree humpyhead for head growth, oceanfree starry for pigment enhancing and oceanfree super red for colour enhancing. Also feed flowerhorn frozen shrimps , frozen blood worms and flakes. Decorate your aquarium with multi coloured gravel and artificial plants. Also keep some selected natural plants , wood and caves to make your flowerhorn feel comfortable. Keep a pleco to keep your tank algae free. With large cichlid you need good filtration like a canister filter or combination of 3 power filters to keep your tank clean. Do weekly wterchanges like 25% weekly basis and ph test. Add salt to your water and always maintain soft water. Water temp. should be between 18-32 degree centrigrade.
