Need some help from the Flowerhorn and the BP keepers

A few weeks ago I got my first FH, then I picked up an unwanted Parrot Fish from craigslist.

They were in my 120 gal tank with a few other fish....in the tank they seemed to be starting to prepare a nest...moving sand and shaking at each other.

Today I moved them into a 55 gal tank together, they are both still shaking at each other, but the parrot fish has been cleaning a rock and chasing the FH away (aggressively)

Another problem is the parrot fish seems to have an egg chute (ovipositor), but the flowerhorn keeps coming back and shaking and trying to help with the sand moving.......

can someone help me out as to why they are acting so peculiar? I have had many types of fish and successful broods...just never saw one keep the other away while in the planning stages.

Also....my flowerhorn is so dark now, is that all stress or also breeding colors?

I wonder if it's because they are both hybrids and they are just trying to figure out which of the many breeding habits of their possible parents to use? I really like your FH if that helps? Kinda looks like mine when it was small.

Thanks for the input, I have seen them trying the lip lock, lol parrot can't win there. And they have been circling....guess I will just wait and see
 
I was under that impression....so why the love coming from the FH toward the parrot? (not that theres anything wrong with that)
 
Both are females. One of my females would also get that color (her bands would intensify) when she was breeding.

Female FH layed eggs.....Male BP followed behind. The BP looks like he has an ovipositer, but it has a very pointy tip....I think he is well endowed :D
