I just got a rena xp4 for free. My problem is a cant seem to get it to prime up. I removed the impeller and had a look at it and I noticed there was a rubber band wrapped around the part underneath the white fan type piece Im assuming to keep it from spinning but IDK, is this piece suppose to spin or stay firmly in place. Im hoping I can just fix this and get it back up and running so I wont have to buy an impeller assembly. Thanks guys.

not quite sure what you mean? Are you talking about the gasket? There should be a gasket around that circular part. Can you take pics of what youre talking about?
I have four Renas, love em!

Its the white fan type piece that kindof rides on the magnetic cylinder type part.
I think this part is called the rotor.

So you opened up the blue lid part? Ive never had to open one up but if you have a rubber band thing wrapped around the shaft of a magnetic rotor that may well be your problem.

It looked as if it was put there intentionally, thats what was concerning me. Im basically just wondering if the fan spins separate from the magnetic cylinder, or if when you spin one they both spin.

I'll look at one when I get home. I've yet to have to take mine apart, so I honestly don't know what to answer.

When you flip it over and take that first piece off that you spin to remove, youll see the white rotor first thing. If you could check it out and let me know that would be awesome man.

They both spin and there shouldnt be a rubber band in there, or at least there aren't any in mine(xp1,2&3). You may need a new impeller. There's only one moving part in the xp series. If you flip the motor housing(top) over and unscrew the cap, the impeller sits in there. It's held in place by the inside of the cap you removed and the bottom of the impeller housing. I usually clean out the housing when I do maintenance, which ironically was last night.

took the rubberband off, still wont do a thing and makes alot of rattling noise. Guess im gonna have to buy a new impeller assembly.

i bought a new xp3 couldnt get it to prim i used another canister filter to push watter threw the hose to prim the impeller
