slat can be added if there is plants in the tank? just asking not trying to questioning you
It can if u don’t like ur plants, lol. Sorry didn’t see there were plants in the tank. Salt will kill plants. For treating fish for potential pathogens salt does help.

No live plants, just a few fake ones in this tank since I have SDs and an Oscar in there. I’m going to add salt this morning. Big fan of salt as a baseline treatment and/or mechanism to slow down the spread fish to fish. Hex shield coming later today and will get that to whatever fish will take it. I doubt the FM will eat since he isn’t showing interest but will try to get some right into his hide.

So, pretty much as expected, all the other fish ate the hex shield without issue except for the firemouth in question. I did add salt this morning and since he won’t eat I thought maybe best course would be to treat the tank with some api general cure. Would this be a recommended course of action for the experts? It doesn’t seem like it could hurt...

Try the general cure and see if it helps. If it gets an appetite then still feed the hex shield. The medicine works best when eaten. Soak the pellet in garlic or bloodwork juice.

Update:

I got the general cure into the tank today, about 3 hours ago. The FM still hasn’t eaten, the rest of the tank has only been given hex shield since Sunday.

FM is looking very bottom heavy in the abdomen and not moving much from corner. Seems to breathing a bit heavy and the raised area on cheek hasn’t subsided at all. No new stringy poo that I’ve seen today. No other fish showing signs of anything.

Picture from just now. This whole sequence painting a clearer picture for anyone on a diagnosis? I suppose I haven’t seen anything to contradict internal parasite or infection yet but this poor guy is blown up like a balloon on his bottom half

Suspect it’s hexemita. Would cont the meds to the tank and food when it’s interested. Since it bloating and that spot on the gill plate is bigger then I’d try a round of triple sulfa.
