Need some help with my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
convicts as you probably know, can be very tough on tankmates.you could try a salvini,or maybe get a female, breeding them is cool if you never have before

Yeah it is a male convict. I kinda assumed it was a common or maybe a bulldog or something like that but again when it outgrows I'll move it. Or hopefully by then I'll have a huge tank it could live in! He is almost 5 years old so I guess he is growing an inch a year?

What other tankmates can I put in this main tank? With the addition of the convict of course
or maybe the pleco is stunted... some can be really aggressive so it is a risk espeshaly in a small aquarium... firemouths andbloodparrots arenice tankmates... that is a small tank so I would not get more than 2-3 more cichlids and they have to be smaller ones that ussaly don't exeed 7 inches...

All good points. I feel like if the Pleco was suppose to be big he would be... the tank he was in is about the same size he is in now, a 40G tank wouldn't stunt a fish's growth to where its only a few inches.

A pair of convict COULD work because they won't be able to bred (the remaining barbs will eat the eggs) could be a good thing.

I should deff look into cichlids though?

HOW ABOUT RAMS????

Okay so the plan for now is deff bring my convict to the main tank and then maybe go get a female con or similar sized cichlid. Then I might get a pair of bristlenose plecs or a traditional (non-plec) catfish (maybe a Raphael or something)

If you get a female con and don't want to take care of eggs/fry a catfish would eat the eggs at night so could be good. Raphaels could work, same with the bristles. A convict might be aggressive towards anything that isn't his mate so I would suggest a female con, would look cooler too.

Well as far as eggs go I think that covered because of TBs. In the future though I think I would be able to add a bottom feeder as well as a 2nd cichlid/female convict in the tank.
