Hello all,

I just purchased a Brown African Knifefish from the pet store yesterday, and I was wanting a little advice from anyone who has/has owned one. He is pretty small still about 4 inches and hes paper thin. Any ideas what I should start feeding him I was going to do feeder guppies but I dont know it he could get em yet. And I was wonder about 2 tankmates just to give the tank some dynamics since hes pretty shy during the day. Ive got him in a 2o gallon long tank for now till hes a little bigger. Any advice is welcome/needed.

Thanks!

P.S. Since hes a knifefish Im naming him Rambo!

If available try, live black worms. Other than that try frozen blood worms. Both have helped me with new acquisitions. Also, if its at all possible try keeping him in a dark bare bottom tank with a place to hide so food is easily seen/smelt.

i dont want to derail this thread but what are blackworms? they are suggested alot to get fish feeding but i've never heard of them here in the uk

back on topic if you stick guppies in and they are too big for him to eat he will be able to eat the hundreds of young they will produce
or try chopped worm

1st black worms : http://www.eeob.iastate.edu/faculty/DrewesC/htdocs/Lvfacts.PDF

now for you knifefish if you have more than just him in the tank and to others steal
all the worms from him try this it works for me.

get a injector for meat and a pice of air line tubig and draw the worms into the injector. and put the end of the tubeing down to him and squirt it to him
if you need to you can take the tubing off and draw water into the injector and then squrit it bak down the tube to git all the worms out

aaaah a bit like blood worms thanks!
i have used a turkey baster to squirt bloodworm infront of fish before

Thanks for the comments!

I will check out what the store has to offer as far as worms.
And as for the hiding places he has a log that is plenty big for him to hide in all day.
My last question though is what would be possible tankmates I was thinking no more than 3.
Would tinfoil barbs work or small cats?

Again thanks for the comments they have helped a bunch.
