Need some ideas

Loaches?:confused: No, they don't. I have sticky threads in Loaches subforum under Bottom Dwellers for more information.lol

You'd certainly be looking for kuhli loaches and dojo loaches (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus) if you want loaches that bury underground. A good alternative would be Malaysian trumpet snails. Anything else simply stir the upper level of the sand as they look for food around.
 
Do loaches do alright with predators? I see people doing it an getting away with it sometimes. I kinda want to get a school of them, but worry aout their safety. Are they generally left alone, or its a risk anytime?

It depends on their sizes. Generally, loaches should be bigger and bulkier in size than their predatory tankmates to avoid being victims. The downside is loaches at this size are also ridiculously expensive. What fish do you have that you want to mix loaches with? Most predatory fish are choked to death if the bifid spines found under each eye of the loaches get stuck on their throats.

Loaches often available are best left alone, kept in a large group and should be provided with plenty of hiding places. They become vulnerable to various illnesses if stressed by constant harassments.
 
Well, I dont know what to mix with them, Im just curious about them at this time. Ive seen some people with some in a predator tank, and I thought about how that was possible. But I will take your advice if I decide to try them out. I dont have plans yet for them, but I have them in mind and want to get a nice group of them maybe. But I also dont want them to be victims either.

I've got 4"-6" Clown Loaches in 2 Oscar tanks that do great. The Oscars were raised with Loaches back when the Loaches were bigger than the Oscars and don't even seem to see them. I've also got 8 2"-4" Clown Loaches in my 4" Flowerhorn's tank. The Loaches in all those tanks shove their heads into the Cichlid's gills grabbing frood that comes out lol
Not sure if that's what you meant by "predator" fish though, the Oscar's are pretty passive and easy-going and the FH isn't aggressive like some I've read about.
 
Mine are very aggressive and I have to be careful what I put in the tank.


Maybe I'll just do goldfish. Like feeders.
 
If you want to do goldfish, you can try weather loaches as well.:D
