Need some imput. I'm getting back into rays after 6 years.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if no water feed can be sorted do min 25% water change per week 2 is better the 90 you used to do is to much in one go

use a good substrate i cant understand why people do bare bottom they are missing out on what rays do best dig for food

i like to keep the temp at 84-86 some say lower but thats what works for me

get the rays feeding on hikari pellets

a UV is good peace of mind

a sand filter is a good adition but not needed

no need to add stuff to change the PH rays do fine in lots of different PH just adjust you tank to your tap water slowly my rays have been in a PH of 8.5 now for 2 years they have breed and are doing great its big changes in PH rays dont like
good luck

so do 2 25% water changes a week? i might just go ahead and do 50% twice a week.

i will be using black sand.

i keep my ray tanks at 82

i feed my rays canadian night crawlers and crayfish....are pellets really that good for a stingray?

i like the idea of a UV too..i just dont know if i will need it.

what does a sand filter do?

thats a pretty high PH....im going to check my home water ph and for metals.

thanks alot.

if you know how to keep fish you can keep rays its as simple as that

im not saying a UV is a must but its best to be safe than sorry and they are cheap 2nd hand and only need mantaince ever 6 months to a year so why not have one

its better to do 2 x 25% than 1 x 50% as you have a bigger temp drop and it can have a impact on the PH if you havent got time to do 2 x 25% water changes per week you dont have enough time for rays

pellets are much better than other foods as they have much more of the stuff rays need in them night crawlers are rubbish in my eyes and very adictive and becomes hard to get the rays to eat anything else
dry food is what most people feed dogs and cats with and dont have any problem why should rays be any different after all they are like water puppy

as for temp i find at 84-86 the rays feed better and if a fish is sick what do people tell you to add salt and up the temp so why not keep the temp high all the time as long as you have plenty of air its fine

this is just the way i do things other people may say its wrong but it works well for me so im not going to change anything

thats plenty from me lets let someone else type

there is no one more in the world i trust more in keeping a ray then myself.
yeah...i understand thats what works for you. I guess i will do the same as i have always done. i see that not much has changed.
Ok..so i guesss i need to look more into a bio reactor.

you dont need bio reactors UV or drip its things you can add at a later date if you feel you need them

all you need to change from the last time you kept rays is the tank size

dont get a 150 get a 350 with just 3 rays it may look empty at 1st but they will fill it in a year and add some tank mates you dont need to keep rays on there own thats what you should be resurching what other fish works with rays not bio reactors

Im looking up Bio reactors because i already know all this other stuff.
All i was asking people where what, if any, new products where out and what they were running.
I know everything else and i have said it more then once.
i know the other fish i want to keep. none. Any other fish i like would just end up killing my rays.
And, honestly, we called a "drip system" and a "bio reactor" a "constant water change" and a "aired sump"
so anyway..again i will say i see nothing new has happened and i will just keep doing what i did last time.

Thanks everyone.

many fish you can keep with rays that have a job to do
like cleaning up left over food tinfoil barbs are the best fish for doing this
