Ok so the tanks 55 gallons, I have 1 Jack Dempsey and 4 pictus cats currently in it. Could I add any of the following fish? Would they all work?

3- Silver Dollars
5- Giant Danios
1- Bristlenose Pleco
1- Red Tailed Shark
1- Firemouth
1- Severum

wiuld any of these work?

The silver dollars and danio's would probably be fine, perhaps the bristlenose; I'd avoid the RTBS and severum. Firemouth potentially, mine have always been beaten up in 55's though its luck of the draw. Have you seen the website Aqadvisor? Can't verify how accurate it is, but I like to use it when deciding on stocking as it gives a rough idea of weekly maintenance etc

SDs, danios and the pleco are all fine to add. I would also avoid the red tail shark as convict suggested. Sevs aren't very fast growers while JDs and firemouths are faster. If the JD is 2-3" smaller than the sev, it should work out. If the firemouth is 1-2" bigger than the JD it should work out. If either the sev or firemouth are smaller than the JD, I don't recommend either. The JD will reach 8-10" while the firemouth will reach 6-7" and the sev will be 10-12". If you plan to move them to a bigger tank, then you could add both the firemouth and the sev if sizes match up accordingly. If the 55 is their forever home, skip the sev and add the firemouth if sizes are right.

I have always found AqAdvisor to advise people to under stock their tanks, which isn't a bad thing for rookies.

Out of what you listed the 5 giant danios is the best option imho.

Severum = gets too big & JD will probably destroy it in that little space as they get older
Firemouth = same as severum except doesn't grow as big, but is more aggressive
Bristlenose = too much bio load & another bottom dweller
Red Tail = food
SD's = need to be in a group of 6 or more to be truely comfortable. 55g isn't enough space for 6 with what you have.

I agree with this ^^. I personally wouldn't do the pictus cats in a 55g, because they require different water conditions, and they are very sensitive to that. Depending on which sp. it is they can get up to 8''. I would get rid of them, and just add a FM and GD.

This might not be a relevant point to the discussion, but another point to consider with the SD's is their activity in a 55. I had them ages ago and they did my nut in by panicking anytime anything moved in the tank, so much so that they'd bang against the glass and squeeze in against the equipment etc. Destroys any sort of slow moving tank activity lol. I think I'd appreciate them more in a longer tank personally. Giant danios are terrific though, they'd get my vote
