Hello Guys,

I made a really bad decision to purchase a heater without a temperature gauge on the top of it. Now, I am having problems keeping the temperature consistent.

This is really annoying and an issue all at the same time. I have been adjusting the temp and waiting an hour to see what happens. When I get the temp to the right level and notice it starts to drop after that. Then I do this process all over again.

I am really concerned with the overall health of the fish. They seem to be less active when the temp dips below 75 -72 but as soon as I increase it they are fine. They also eat very well and are active but I would like to reduce the stress on them from increasing and decreasing heat levels.

Can anyone suggest a really good heater!!!! I have no problems spending up to $40 -$50 if that is whats needed.

Please help!!

Fluval heaters are always nice, I've had mine on my 55g aquarium for a year now and never had any problems. I believe its a 200 or 300 watt heater..

Now that most everything is coming out of China, most new heaters made lately are junk. I used to love Visi-Therms and Ebo-Jager heaters, but the new ones are crap. Check out most on-line reviews and you will see what I mean. Most brands are prone to failures. I switched to Rena heaters and have had no problems with them.

X2 I also run fluval E series heaters they are extremely accurate and easy to read

I love my aqua via titanium heaters I got from ebay. They keep the temp very constant in a cold basement. They also have the temp controller on the power cord so it is outside of the tank.

Thank you guys for your suggestions. Since this is something that has been plaguing me for 3-4 days I will go to a local fish store to purchase a new heater. Do you think your recommendations can be found in a pretty fair known chain?

Fluvals can be found at most Pet Smart, as can Hydro Theo which I've had good luck with. Most of my tanks have Jager heaters though, they are built tough... have drop them on tile floors an didn't break. They are from Eheim an i've only found them online.
