Looking for advice for a single showcase specimen of CA cichlid for a 125. Thinking of bifa, fenestratus, black bar, zonatus. Suggestions?

Not a big fan of trimacs, recently lost a big citrinellus after 10 years. Don't know much about chancho or amarillo. Seems like they would outgrow a 125?

hogaboomorum is an interesting idea. will do some research in this species. most of the pics i've seen don't have much color. is that typical for the species?

nice unusual ideas there decker. hadn't even thought about chucos or paraneetroplus. do like the glassbanger attitude of beani, but have read a lot of confusing info about bloat in that species.

Hoogaboom looks like a barred midas, isletas, chancho, Amarilloo, ect. A fish of no beauty..

If you gonna keep just one fish and you like Beani, go for the Beani. They are unique, gangster personality with a fancy look. Less common. Don't let the negative of bloat stop you from ever owning one. Only 1 fish. Just maintain the water. So e.z.

Viejas, parachromis, Amphilophous fams got their similarities within their fam. But no fish looks like a Beani.

BEANI

animal guy - do you think all this bloat issue is overblown? i do like the look of beani, very unique. thanks everybody for the input.
