ok the best thing before taking any course of action would be to get pics if possible. it's difficult to suggest what to do, especially with fish that are traditionally sensitive to meds, without having a good guess as to what is going on.

what species of gars are these (i would guess Florida or something else common to the trade)? how big are they, and how long have you had them?

i would guess that you can tell if they have fish lice or not...which can commonly afflict incoming gars from distributors...if they are fish lice, then treatment with salt, increased temp, and jungle parasite clear will work well.

if it is bacterial, which it very well could be (again, pics will help with this), then using salt, increased temp to 82-85F, and increased frequency and volume of water changes should help the fish clear up.

are the fish eating? if so, what are they being fed?

with some/all of this info provided, we can help out with a course of action :) --

great, thanks for the pics :) it looks like something bacterial of potentially fungal. if they are eating FD krill that's great, keep them on that stuff. i would suggest the salt/raised temp/increased water changes regimen and see how that improves things for a week or two. if after about 1.5 weeks you see no improvement, then we can consider some broad spectrum antibios, like tetracycline. hopefully the water changes and other methods suggested will work before that is necessary. i would bump temp up to 82-84F, increase water changes to 50% every other day, and keep up with their feeding (since FD is definitely good for them).

please keep us posted on how they are doing...there is no abnormal behavior thus far is there? good luck, and i am sure the gars should be able to recover in due time--
