Where the cheeseheads are..
Hey all,
wonder if anyone can gimme a hint on fattening this guy.
You can see clearly from the pic that the female outgrew him so much.
They were the same size when i got em, prob 2 months ago, CB.

I agree that each ray has their own personalities, some will become real heavyweights and some will be skinny as hell,
but my concern is will the skinny ones survive in the end?

He just eat very little bites of every meal.
I give 3 meals daily, ghost shrimp mainly.

Tried changin into bloodworms, super worms, market shrimp, earth worms,
i even threw in some frozen crickets one day, and still not much action goin on.
I;m gettin some guppies , hopefully this will do coz i'm outta ideas.

They dont have tankmates , pH 6.5 - 7.5
25% WC daily 0ammonia and nitrate

feed him only once a day. he will be more hungry when its feeding time, he will want to stuff himself as much as possible causing his stomach to stretch quicker.

this has worked for me many times.

Raise the temp and feed blackworms..

I agree with Ed. raise the temp for a few days (to mid-high 80's). This may also be a social problem in your tank, in which case you could separate them , give the smaller one some time to relax without competition from the larger one.

Raise temp 82-84 if not there already, and you may want to separate the male until he gets bigger. It is not uncommon for the female to out grow the male. This have happened to me with retic and motoro pups. All pups came to me a roughly the same size and the females just grows much quicker.

Why is your pH range 6.5-7.5? Unstable pH is not a good thing when it comes to ray health. Stay away from feeders if you want to fatten your ray up. They use up energy trying to catch them and they are not that healthy for them. Raise the temp, and start killing the ghost shrimp before you add them to the tank. I did this by squeezing them in a net. Once your ray is use to eating them dead, then start mixing frozen shrimp and scallops with the dead ghost shrimp. Once you ray is on the frozen stuff, start fattening him up. If he will eat any kind of worm then feed him them as well. If this all fails, then look at separating him.

Sorry, but I really don;t see the point of spending extra money on live food then killing it before you feed it.
Live foods trigger better predator behavior, and doesn't rot if uneaten.
Bloodworms are about as nutritious as toenails. Blackworms are much better if you can find them, or even tubifex.

Bloodworm, Tubiflex: is there a difference?
