to each his/her own.I love fx5's and have 7 of them.here is a picture for you to show you that they don't pick up any waste and are not worth your money:}

I like aquaclear 110's. I have 2 on each of my 50 breeders. Also I have a few filament or mascara barbs in the tanks and they actually eat the pleco mess or at least break it up and spit it making it small and easy for the aquaclears to pick it up. Good filter for the buck in my opinio0n. Had a canister from tetra that sucked.

How Long was it between cleanings?

There is a good read on plecoplanet that my brother was told to check out telling you why a filter that is full of detritus like that does more harm than good. It is very interesting stuff and I think a very important thing to read when keeping fish that produce such high amounts of waste.

Well that mess came from me forgetting to clean it,luckily i have two on all my big tanks along with other filtration.

I have 2 sumps, 2 - 2260, 2 - 2250, 2 - ac100, 6 - XP4, and 6 sponge filters. I run 3 filters on most of my tanks for safety. Best by far is my 100G sump with 2 filter socks, matala sheets, ceramic beads and filter floss. It can handle 40 plecos up to 14", 40 CL to 7", 21 WB SD to 7" and 10 geos. Next best is 2260, then 2250 with ac100 tied with XP4. I keep the sponge filters on air from battery backups in case of power failures and have a standby generator for longer outages.

You also need geo's in sand bottom tanks or a couple of power heads in BB to keep the pleco sh** moving good for any filter to work.
