drift wood? any others?

can i ask why you want to lower your PH? my feeling is that even a fish thats not ideal for your normal PH is far better off in a stable tank with a stable PH rather than trying to constantly buffer yours. to be honest i have never seen any point in changing PH other than to breed certain species.

thanks guys, fixed itself......what is RO unit? reverse osmosis?

yep and u can also use peet pellets in your filter

Gotta agree with Danny, ive had freshwater aquariums since i was a kid, have never once tested ph, never cared, never had any major problems. I have only raised cichlids, piranha and native minnesota fish also though. I have heard that potted plants and driftwood can lower ph, shells and crustacians raise it, just stuff i read on the net.

Our city water is poo. Since our lake is being drained, all the dregs are making it to the water treatment plant. I have now had to start using buffers. The small amount of buffers used now by the city are not enough. I have seen pH drops within two days. I first realized the problem when I found most of my fish floating.
It actually strips the slime off of the fish. I have never had this problem in the past. I double checked for anything in the tanks to cause this(IE...food, poop etc).
decaying mater gives off acids.
