How large is your hood? Shouldnt take that much.

See if you can get the Fusion or the epoxy paint in the small can. Much more economical. Roll it on with a small foam roller.

Im assuming the wood is very dry. I would spray or roll on the polyurethane as a base (dont need a lot) and then go over it with the Fusion or epoxy paint. The polyurethane will seal up the grain and prevent too much paint from soaking in.

Looking at the size of the hood all the coatings shouldnt cost you that much.
