I've got a chance to get my first monster tank (120 gallons is monster for me, lol.) from a guy I know. There's only one hitch, theres a small chip (4mm long x 1mm wide and is 1/4 the depth of the glass). The guy claims it holds water and has held water for a year.

Is this safe? Will it be safe full of water long term? Can it be easily fixed to be made safe (if not safe for long term as is)?

Please help quickly, I need to jump on this.:)

Hmm good question.. I personally wouldnt. I first hand have delt with a tank failure upstairs too. 120 is a good sized tank. I just was always told not to risk something like that unless its a small tank. small as in we are talkin 2g type thing. you can fix it im sure.. but i dont know how long it would hold whether it be 2 weeks or 5 years duno.. Get some more advice though . me personally wouldnt cuz tank failure sucks

Oh yeah, the chip is on a corner seam near the bottom.

hmm... yeaa my response still stands. It would be very nice to have a tank like that though. has the dude had fish in it with the chip? how did he say the chip got there? and if the fish were in it, for how long?

It has had african cichlids in it for the last year. The chip was in it when he bought it, but he didn't notice it. When he tried to return it a month later, the store was out of business.

I don't know, I'd like to get it. But I'd hate to waste my hard earned money or worse yet, spill 120 gallons of water in my house.

Also, is there any chance of getting it replaced under warranty (all glass)?

I haven't seen it in person. I don't know if this helps or not, but here's a picture...

What do you guys think? I need advice fast before this gets away.

as far as warranty they would have had to send in for it. Its over a year old so I doubt it :( I cant really tell where the chip is.. is it the thing to the bottom rightish or the far right weird thing? some places a good place near me, sells acrylic tanks with lifetime warranties but that doesnt help you much now

I think it's the chip, I don't know. It's hard to tell exactly. It's supposed to be a picture of the chip.
