im trying to set up my wet dry. my problem is my external overflow box is out running my sump or when i shunt one of the drain lines the external box overflows.can anyone tell me what im stuck on other than stupid.

Have you drilled a vacume breaking hole in the return at the water line?

If you don't it will siphone the water down to the bottom of ther intake.

Hope it helps

Your HOB overflow can't outrun your return. It will only flow as much as the pump will put back into the tank, and if it's overflowing the pump has more output than it has capacity. Steve is right on the hole, make sure the return has one to keep the sump from overflowing in case of a power outage.

hey guys what do you mean by drill a vacume breaking hole in the return at the water line? Do you have pictures of better step by step instructions on this.

Thanks

I can post some tonight.... BTW if you live near Indy we will be having a workshop on wet/drys Feb 16th

All you need is 1/16" hole drilled in the return line right at the water level or just below it.

Two 1/8" to 1/4" holes 180* apart in both lines just below the lowest water level you will normally have, anything smaller will easily get clogged (algae, food, deceased fish).

Ok I think I get it. I am just having a hard time with my wet dry system. I know and I am also told that it is the best filtration system you can have, just having troubles with it. I am afraid I am going to come home one day and my living room will be flooded due to my pump going out and my wet dry system overflowing and siphoning all my water out of my tank. I know it might sound stupid, but I want to use the best just afraid of the things that can happen when it is not set up right. I am new to the whole wet dry system.

Repair I am about 2 hours north of Indy can you give me more info on that workshop maybe I can make it. I would really like to attend if i could make it happen with work.

Thanks.

I'm about an hour north of indy. If you need help sometime I'd be willing to show you a few things (if you can't make it to the workshop that is). I would recommend the workshop. Repair has several types of filtration systems and you can learn a LOT just by looking at the way things are set up.

Hey thanks again Rallysman, and to every one else. Hopefully Repair will get me more info on the workshop. Yeah that is all it would take is for me to see how some of you guys have your wet dry set up. I really do appreciate all the help and I am sure I will need help on a lot more things lol. I might take you up on the offer of helping me out if i cant get it figured.

Thanks
