need your advice on my sump set up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Each 90 slows the flow. The key is to drain through as straight a pipe as possible. You might need to set up a manifold to allow each drain the same length from the tank. Then run a single line to the sump, say 2".
Why aren't you using flex tubing? $$$? I think you would like it better in the long run...easier to work with.

^^check it out for manifolds...you will see what I'm talking about.

I see what you mean that flex tube looks awsome. Im gunna be installing a manifold this weekend. Thanks for all the advice.

Actually, believe it or not, air conditioning supply houses have a ton of filter media. MarineDepot.com and ThatPetPlace.com are good starts...I would Google filter media and material, not aquarium specific. As long as it is polyester or of a synthetic nature, the commercially available filter material is relatively cheap.
Also, pond supply websites are a good source for larger quantities of filter material and they offer a good(generally speaking) selection of foam media like Poret.

Could it because the shorter feed line turns back up over a return line?

Can you confirm that the slower flowing drain is the left one that has the pipe that is run up and over your return?

If this is the case, then I would say you hit the nail on the head. You are forcing water to move upwards which it doesn't want to do and that will definitely reduce flow. Any reason you didn't run that 45 fitting down and under the return line? It looks like you have enough room to do so.

Sorry it took so long for me to reply. My buddy helped me plumb it. We were both dead tired from moving the tank we went into just get it done mode. Hind site is 20/20 right. But its easy enough to go back and redo it. Im going to be putting in a manifold and putting a fitting on the drain from the sump so i can put a hose on it. Hopefully fingers crossed i can get both overflows running the same. Im gunna need it ltr.
