needle fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
fishbase lists them maxing out at 16", but 12" is probably more realistic in the home aquarium. These guys are very skittish and tend to bang into the glass when startled. Based on that I'd say a 100 would probably be the bare minimum. Also these guys like to be in groups although this is not necessary.

The petsmart by me has one and has for a while no one wants it. Id say its about 7-8" long. How would it fare being in with goldfish, balas, catfish? And at the size what would the min fish size need to be in order not to be eaten? Id love to have one.

i have a needle nose in my 55 and he looks rather uncomfortable in there, having hard time turning around. i havnt got a good measure of him but he is atleast 12in if not a little more. i have had him for about 2 years and he eats way to much for how big he is. im moving him into my 150 gal

Here is a needlefish I just purchased, now living in my outdoor pond. It is interesting to see how his natural coloration makes him look just like a floating stick.

This one is about 6 inches long.

i'm new to this site, and just purchased a "needlefish"(7") at petsmart today...i put it in with two Hujeta's(7"), a Tiger shovelnose(7"), and a red tiger oscar(5")...so does anyone think i'll have any compatability issues? i'm not very familiar with the needlefish, and really wanted a longnose gar, but the one i found was $42...compared to the $12 for the needlefish...so i thought i'd give it a try...

idk, my tiger shovelnose is very lazy, and the needlefish is about the same length as he is...i've noticed that my red tiger oscar has chased him a little, but no problems yet... in the next two weeks, i will be investing in a florida gar...i'm very excited, but not sure how they will get along...any tips, pointers or otherwise?

Yeah, a 55 will probably work since they only get like 12 inches max. For some reason they are always available at the store, but nobody ever buys em!

Hmm that is not the needlenose i get at my store, i believe most call those tropical gar, but are not related to true gars.
