Needle Nose gars are not true gars. Neither are Rocket Gars btw.
As far as size and breeding - a LFS here had a trio of them at one point all of which were pushing 2 ft. I've never seen any even half that big before or since. They had these fish for about three weeks and suddenly babies appeared in the tank. They were quite a sight - micro copies of the adults...you could hardly see them.
I believe they all died because they wouldn't eat anything.
So yeah cant tell you much information except that they CAN breed in captivity. Due to thier size and nervous nature...I bet very few of them make it to maturity...perhaps the reason captive breedings are so rare.
Feeding - most needle noses will only eat live food. Personally I had two that I got to eat frozen krill.
