Needle Nose Gars

Needle Nose gars are not true gars. Neither are Rocket Gars btw.

As far as size and breeding - a LFS here had a trio of them at one point all of which were pushing 2 ft. I've never seen any even half that big before or since. They had these fish for about three weeks and suddenly babies appeared in the tank. They were quite a sight - micro copies of the adults...you could hardly see them. :) I believe they all died because they wouldn't eat anything. :( So yeah cant tell you much information except that they CAN breed in captivity. Due to thier size and nervous nature...I bet very few of them make it to maturity...perhaps the reason captive breedings are so rare.

Feeding - most needle noses will only eat live food. Personally I had two that I got to eat frozen krill.

2 feet long Needle Nose! Wow. Do they actually reproduce at this length or can they do it at 8". I bet if they were fed mosquito larve they would have survived. Hey cenecker can I see your fish pics. Post the link.
 
2ft is very unlikly needle nose only get to 1ft in length
 
I just got these 2 needle nose and I want to know how to care for them and breed them. Can you tell me the basics.

My needle hose are breathing heavily. What could be wrong. I added medicine. And also I took out the 4 pangasuis catfish from the tank. Can they be nervous? I dont want them to die coz they are hard to get. I fed them feeder guppies. One of them at 3 and the other one ate 2. I again putted 5 guppies in the tank but they have not eaten any of them yet.
 
i think i answerd this in a pm. dont be soo alarmed about heavy breating its normal after feeding.
 
My needle nose ate 3 fish and now I am seeing partially eaten fish all over the aquarium. Since they swallowed them whole so is this okey for them to poo out half of fish. If not then what could be wrong.

first like said before none of these are true gas there's fish here called rocket gars and Ahsan ali you have needlenose gars or needle fish they get around 12'' but can get bigger if taken we'll care of . they like live food but with alot of work they can be trained to take prepared foods which is best but breeding is very hard to do and is useually done by luck and they fry are difficult to feed the best methed is to sett up green water which is water with lots of little organisums to feed the fry
nezt i think someone wanted to know what true gars there are and there are alligater, florida , spotted , longnose , shortnose and there are rare ones like tropical , cuban , and crocidile gar which is a hybrid
but the most important thing is that true gars get big alligators can get 10 feet long and bigger very big fish

and it is bad to add meds before you know whats wrong with it just raise the temp a couple of deggrees and add some salt which they need add around 1Tbs per 5 gallons and fish can be very eazily stressed and killed by meds so be care full and never add meds unless you absolutly have to
