Coeruleus are cylindrical shape never kept any; I kept thier irregulare cousins with neet. nematopus before. I observed them in my friends tank with some amph. rhytismas of which I am fimilar with thier level of aggression & they didn't strike me as being able to hold their own. Then again neet. panamensis didn't either until I put them with neolamp. leleupi.
That said they (Ther. coeruleus) are a rarer fish so that to me justifies getting them just to try.If you get the neet. nematopus the gouramis will have to leave the tank even with the salvini they will have to leave soon one way or the other.
Not necessarily. Gourami's, if established and provided floating cover, can hold their own with cichlids. I have 23 of them (Blue, Orange, Violet, Snakeskin, & Moonlight) swimming happily for years with a pond full of large predatory cichlids (Green Umbee, Intermedium, Hericthys, Zaliosum, Motoguense, Managuense) Oh...and Theraps Coeruleus.
