Neighbourly help.

I bet there aren't many channels that would air his material nowadays, what with all the politically correct snowflakes about. Shame. The Benny Hill Show, back in the late 70's and early 80's was one of the shows that raked in top viewing figures here in the UK.

How times change.

Right.I remember years ago Benny even had a show on HBO.We didn't have cable television when I was a kid so I never got to see those shows but I imagine the content was raunchier than Hill's regular material.

As the years went by, and people's attitudes were changing, his sketches and songs were very much watered down compared to his wacky original material.

I don't know whether, on HBO, that you saw the really raunchy stuff, or whether you caught the latter watered down stages of his career.

A typical sketch, and there'd be many during a show, would involve, for instance, secretaries bending over in the office to pick up Benny's pen, which he had "accidentally" dropped. The secretary, in good old Benny Hill style would be wearing stockings and suspenders and the viewer would get a real eyeful! Policewomen and maids featured a lot too, all eventually either bending over or flashing ample cleavage, and then being chased around to the classic Benny Hill tune.

His songs were quite raunchy too, peppered with double entendre. One such song, "Ernie (he drove the fastest milkcart in the west)", reached No1 in the UK singles charts, lol. It was probably released in the US too.

As a 10 year old lad I thought it was all brilliant, it was almost like mild porn to me, lol.

Yes, I do remember the much more raunchy shoes of his early years. I liked them much better. Lol, I think I was around 10 also looking back. I even liked the end of the show chase lol.

Yes, as raunchy as it was back then, his shows were immensely popular. If some TV station chose to air that early stuff nowadays the producers would be locked up! Lol.

When his "style" fell out of favour years later, and TV companies began dropping his show, he became a recluse, up until his death.

I watched a fascinating documentary on Benny Hill years ago and he really was a very private quiet man. He was extremely wealthy but chose not to spend his money and just lived like a normal run of the mill guy.

One thing's for sure. In this day and age there will never ever be the likes of Benny Hill again.

RIP Benny Hill 1924-1992.

....one of my favorite skits of Hill's was when he played a kung fu character and he squared off against a bear.Someone was wearing a bear costume of course, and a pretty lousy one at that even for back then. While there was no debauchery that I can recall, the shear absurdity of the whole thing had me rolling on the floor!

Yes I think I may have seen some parts of the documentary. I think I remember he went a little more out of the way than a "regular" guy not to spend his money.
