They are easy to breed. Pairs setup a sort of nuclear family with older fry helping care for the younger. They work great in a Tang. community or a communiy of N. brichardi but not a general community. They grow between 3-4". Shells aren't needed, they spawn in caves and rock environments so provide lots of hiding places. If you switch from your community to these I would suggest changing your decor to a more rocky habitat. They dig often so sand will work, or fine gravel.

kk.... in my 35gal could i transfer the marble chips to my 13gal?
thanks for all the help..
how many do you think i'd get?
4?2? and i saw these really, REALLY! cool looking catfish in with them..and 2 frontosa..(dont plan to get one, how come they're so expensive?) the catfish was brown strippy not a stripey rapheal cat or whatever..
any ideas?
cause maybe i would get 2?

should really start posting in the African section... Fronts grow slow and are in demand, most likely the fronts were brundi which cost the least... depends on the cats, but they eat fry... so if you want fry no... if not get the cats...

Crazy little freaks will go after anything other than a birchardi in the tank. Maybe with a big enough tank I could find something to mix with them. Cool fish though, I like having them.

get them but keep them alone. they will pick on and kill weaker fish but alone, they are beautiful. i love the way they look but for the good of my tank i resist getting them

Easy to care for and breed. I've got a pair that spawn every couple of months or so. They only spawn on a broken piece of a clay pot. I like them in my tank because they are good at eating all the little pieces that get chewed up at spit out from my larger Tangs. They are tough little guys so you will probally be best off just housing them alone in the tank. As said, add more rocks, gravel should be OK for now, post a pic. of the catfish. I have several Synodontis w/ mine, but the fry never make it past a half an inch. Don't know if their to blame, or the other fish.
