I can't say as far as blue dempseys go, but regular dempseys can tolerate a very wide range of water parameters. they are central american and in most places in CA the water ranges from around 7.2 to 8.6 and is somewhat to very hard. in some places the water params are the same of those in Lake Malawi...something that not a lot of people realise.

there pretty cool my friend has 3 they dont grow as fast and dont get that big.. but the adults look so sweet...drooooooool

meh, they can handle hard water just fine, mine was raise in super hard water until he reached about 2.5 inches, did just fine.
