Picked up a pair of baby jewels today, gorgeous little guys. Been hoping to chance upon em for a while now to add to the color aspect of my tanks

Start out with a nice yawn shot

Anyone think I got a pair? Or are they too small to sex at this point yet? If its questionable I'm going to go grab a couple more to be sure I have a pair. This will be my first time breeding egg layers!

From what I've learned so far, the one with a slightly more pointed head and larger black dot may be a male and the other more rounded one with the smaller black dot may be a female? Total newb at sexing any fish but bichirs and livebearers , thanks for any help/input!

(Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong section but I was pretty sure they would be considered riverine instead of rift lake)

Anyone have an opinion on if this is a pair? Pretty sure it is, w/ the smaller more brightly red one being the female

I know absolutely nothing about Africans but by the pics it does look like a pair. The body shapes are different like you explained have you tried to vent them.

No I actually have no clue how to vent, this is my first attempt at breeding egg layers vs livebearerr. What's the least stressful on the fish method of venting? I don't even like taking em out for a measure so if its too invasive I'll probably just let time tell
