So I've had my Silver for about a month, and he's still TERRIFIED of me. My favorite seat on the couch is next to his tank, and when I sit there, he swims to the opposite end of his 6' tank, and hovers just above the bottom. I don't understand his apprehension to people being near the tank, especially since the store I got him from had him displayed front and center.

The only thing I can think of is to try some dithers to possibly calm him down. Any suggestions? I don't care if he eats a few of them, but I doubt it will happen anyway since he actually doesn't seem to like live food (aside from crickets). If not dithers, is there another suitably large fish whose presence may inspire more confidence in my silver aro?

It's reached a point where his nervousness is just emotionally draining. His misery is making me miserable. I just want my fish to be comfortable in his tank. He's my biggest fish, in my biggest tank, and he's a total nervous wreck.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

That is a thought, not that I'm dying to get him to take live food or anything. Right now, when he's calm enough to eat, he gets floating carnivore sticks, freeze-dried krill, and crickets. I tried super worms, but he's only managed to eat one. The rest sink to the bottom and are ignored.

I have some floating plants in there, but the currents from the filters inevitably push them all to the same corner.

It seems to take them getting larger to get confident. My 26"er is scared of nothing. He was however very nervous when younger. Try to get him used to your hand durring tank cleaning that should help some. Just be patient he will get there.

Thanks man. so it doesn't seem like dithers would be all that beneficial in my situation? damn. I was hoping it would be something that didn't involve me being patient.

It couldn't hurt to try adding some inexpensive dithers. I've used silver dollars in the past and they work well.
