Netting out monster sized fish ?

I know that Silver Aros have no problem at all in this net...that's what I bought it for originally...

If that was the case Aros wouldn't be able to feed off the tree limbs in the wild...
How many farms take the fry from the mouths of Aros and they don't do that under water...

It's probably not a good idea to leave any fish out of water for long enough to get dry and this net will keep them wet for as long as it takes to transfer them...

It is not very practical to move fish without putting it in the air at sometime...

Even after acclimating them you don't want to put that water in the tank...

There is more problem with Ph shock and temp shock than the nets people use. Unless of course they forget that fish JUMP!! ;):D
 
i don't know if this has already been mentioned but if you are trying to net out a stingray get a landing net there the best for rays IMO

Fine mesh or a more open mesh? I've wondered about that since I got that ray off you. If I ever have to move it I think I have to go buy another net lol
 
i found that those mesh laundry bags that fold closed are really useful ... u direct the fish into the bag and snap it shut ... it acts the sam as a large net and the fish cant jump out.
 
Is there a thread here to guide "netting" out of rays? Very interested how to do it safely for both the ray and the keeper. When I got my last ray, the seller said he'll net it out and I'll hold the plastic, I was like....what the...?!

I think that guy was kind of a jerk. Imagine if I was a noob and I just followed his instructions... :irked:

Jerky guy: nice ray though. :) Got his nearly 9 inch motoro for $140, not too bad a deal.

They have come up with a net that is actually a fine mesh tube.
The netting is really, really fine, so not even the prickliest of fins catch on the material. The loop on mine is 12" in diameter and the handle is like 18" long and made of hardwood. The net or (sock) as they call it, is black silky nylon, and 48" long, so even the longest of Arowana or any fish for that matter will easily fit.

All you have to do is have the location ready where you are going to put the fish, close the sock with one hand and scoop with the other. Lowering the water level will allow you to do it by yourself...Fish seem to flop right in, then just raise the fish OUT of the water and let the excess water drain off the net.
Then you just put the net and fish in the destination container, tank, tote, bucket, whatever, and let go of the end opposite of the handle...The fish will slide right through and you won't disturb the slimecoat, split fins or tear the rays of the fins, because they are moving in the forward direction back into the water...
If you haven't seen one in action, My suggestion is find a Koi club and watch what they do, to move monster Koi...Koi can be buck wild and spooky as hell, and they take them to shows/sales all the time...

They are not cheap, I paid like 68.00 for mine, but that wasn't the best deal out there.

As a matter of fact the "BOSS" Neoprodigy has got some really expensive fish and I know he swears by them as well...that's who hooked me up with the idea, And he couldn't have been more right about moving/netting out Monsters...
