neutral pH

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Leave the pH alone. Using buffers and acids and powders will (as you've seen) kill your fish. Those Plecs would've have no problem in your tap water. My 2 Royals, Discus & Angels do great in super hard water.

well...a day after we chatted MrPleco, my royal died and my red bruno is on his way out. all my levels are fine but the pH reading is all over the place. it changes daily.

something's happening with the tap water up here, just not sure what.

Same thing with me all my bottom dwellers went first, the cichlids are fine
If you look at your KH readings if they are like mine they are low out of the tap...We get out water directly from the Missouri, plus there is a lot of construction going on. Which causes daily flucations in out tap water..

Seachem neutral regulator require twice the dosage on my tap water to bring it down to 7.8...AMM becomes toxic at lower levels as the PH rises.. So when you change water your older tank water is diffently lower PH facotr than the tap... The small trace amounts of ammonia suddenly become toxic due to the rapid PH swing.. I have some coral pieces to put in your XP3 to help buffer your tank....I took my driftwood out and have done daily water changes my 180 right now is reading 6.6 to 6.8 and I'd love to keep it there. Unfortunatley my aged stored, filtered tap water is at 7.8.. i ordered some Kent PH stable to help up my KH levels..It's trial and error to find a system that works...RO water the process is not efficient , my water bill would go through the roof... I was looking into a
carbon Pre filter for my outlet. ( metals and pesticides etc.)

i used seachem neutral regulator. i premixed and the tank turned up cloudy.

all the fish are active and have shown alot more activity since i've used the nr.

i'm just going to deal with a cloudy tank until the tap water seems to be a bit more consistant. i'll continue to use the nr with the water changes.

i really need to replace all the materials inside the xp3's. being broke sucks. if you know of anyone that's looking for a breeder tank or something a little smaller, the 65 is up for sale in the marketplace and craigslist.
