Never do a Water Change again? - Patent Pending!!!

Anyone or anything that says "you'll never have to do water changes again" is lying to you. Completely closed mini-ecosystems are incredibly hard to create and maintain, and it certainly isn't going to happen in an aquarium or a pond.

I was going to post a warning, stating be careful what you say... but, it was too late! It is an ever increasingly small world.
My grandfather is an inventor and has come up with all kinds of things from Manuer seperators for farms to air conditioned, not just cool but filtered, cab enclosers, to filter cleaning systems to seafood processing equipment and so on. To listen to him speak you may not know how extremely intelegent he really is. I would also say that it isn't always a genuis that come up with great idea's and inventions. The ones we hear about simply have the nerve, gall and ambition to bring it to us. The rest of us are usually just to damn lazy because it is hard work.
Final note on inventing:
Most good ideas/inventions start with someone who is filling a local need. Then a large company might take interest in it, maybe even buy a few of the products made by the individual then alter it enough to get around the patent and mass market it to the rest of the world as there own. Thus we think say "3M" turns out so many helpful and useful products.
And rather than tearing the guy down why don't we try to encourage him especially before we really know that much about it.

His web site say that this is on a 72 gallon bowfront.
His tank has placos and even has Real amazon sword plants, I should check to see if I bought the darn knock off again. I should have known that some thing was wrong when I was buying plecos.

As far as the Patent Pending- maybe he thinks that if he doesnt have a patent- but someone likes his idea- then its "Pending". Patents are expensive. 
Im working on a fishy invention of my own and I was told it would be between $7,000-$12,000 for a patent. Maybe you should ask him what patent company he is working with- If he is not working with a company, he might not be able to find someone to manufacture it.

I dont know, I wish I could see it in action. He keeps saying how great it is and what it will do, but I cant form an opinion unless I see it in actiojn. I guess we cant expect that since hes trying to get it patented.
I dont know whay sopem of you are telling him to give up his secret. If he tells you exactly what it is, he runs the risk of someone stealing his idea. Its something hes trying to invent and sell, if it ever makes it to the market, its there for anyone who wants it. Its his money hes putting into this, whether he wins or loses, its his problem not anyone elses. I dont understand why some people on MFK are a tough crowd to please, always negative.

Means the Patent has been applied for, but is not yet issued...this by no means that it will receive a patent,
but it does not mean it won't either...
the US patent office is searching the invention to see if it infringes any other patents...
This is why he is not showing off what it really is...
Most of us would be happy with the bragging rights, but dude is going for the gold...
I got no problem with this, as soon as it is patented and brought to market I'll DIY one from there, if it is indeed what it is supposed to be...there isn't anything a patent can protect from copying for personal use...
however if copied and sold for profit you could be sued for a percentage of profit, or tied up in probate while you are being sued, at which time if the product is good enough, you could be living on your yaght with a offshore account with a 1/2 dozen blondes/bunetts/clean shaven beauties of choice...
