By no means is this intended to insult anyone, but what is the facination with DATS. I see alot of people have them and they have a strong following for them, but why? You know how some poeple like aggressive fish or rare fish or odd balls, where do DAT fall in. Just curious? And
1) Which one would go good with say an armatus, silver arrownan, royal knife, and a tig cat.?
2) Is there a piticular one that grows relly bike and are easy to find?
3) Are they easy to care for, I am interested in maybe adding one to my tank.
4) Is one okay by itself or is it best to have a few?
I apprecaite any info on this subject.

Thanks in advance

Why do I keep dats ? They're full of personality..trust me on this one. Last year, I see no interest in dats. I saw one and I fell in love with them. Now, I have over 15 dats..

1. All dats will get along...I have all mine with those fish you have listed except Armatus
2. Indo dats are easy to find, they are all slow growers, so if you're lacking patient, get a larger one...but expect to pay a bit more...
3. if you can keep a tig, you can keep a dat. Tehy're sensitive to water quality, but not as sensitive as tig.
4. You can either have 1, or more than 4-5 to spread the aggresiion...

Also,

Larger dats will never eat the smaller one...I have a 12" Widebar with a 3/4" indo before and the Indo follow him everywhere for a while in a QT tank..it was cute..

It's a personal preference......
When I saw my first tiger in a lfs, I was like what is that?? I have to have 1 of those. Then I read up a little bit on them and decided to get 1...After I got 1 I wanted more and more...I now have 5 all together and looking for more.

When a buddy got me into fishkeeping years ago,I purchased an aquarium fish book published by Simon and Schuster and in was a picture of D.Microlepis that really stood out because to me,dats look like they should be saltwter fish, most freshwater fish resemble each other in a lot of ways but dats are soo unique looking.

Whats up Tigerfish, how was your trip?

i have just got my first dat, he's about the 2.5 inch mark at the moment (only had him 1 week) ......... but let me tell you it won't be my last.... i'm already looking for another!

whats not to like about them? nice colors/cool pattern, unique way of hunting live food, i hand feed my dats and love their personatlity, slow growers is a positive for me right now because im in the market and only have a 55g, they do look saltwaterish, they get monster, they use obstacles to their advantage, and they can take a bit of work to get them stable.
