I asked the same question a while back before I had a tank setup. I was looking at everything from arowanas to peacock bass. I first got an Oscar, then a jaguar. I found a dat by chance several months ago, and bought him from an Asian fish store. The very night I brought him home I was hooked on dats. He quickly devoured the giant danios I had as dithers that the cichlids could never catch, and I watched his funny antics for hours that night and still do every night. They have so much personality. Its like you can see different expresions on their faces and imagine what they are thinking. They spike up their mohawk when they are startled, curious, or showing aggression. My Dat will swim on the bottom like a stingray on his side. He chases me from one end of the tank to another, greets me like a dog when I get home from work, and runs against my arm when I clean the tank. They are just badass.
