Aquarium fish cannot survive in the wild in the first place.

If you release them, most proberbly they will die.

Ones that survive create problems.

They can survive, ask Florida. In fact, if there is a fish you want while you're in Florida, you can catch it yourself.

I was just curious if this is all true??
Too true. Ditto on Ewurm's statement. I had noticed some people coming on forums to have the fish they caught from Florida identified and we were stunned by how many foreign species the Florida's water systems can actually hold.

As for me, I completely agree with the originator of the thread. Whenever I decide to get rid of a fish, I just give it to someone else who wants it. If I can't find anyone, then I take it to the LFS. And if they don't want to take it, I then post an ad at the LFS on the bulletin board for a free fish to a good home. Usually within 2-3 days, I start getting phone calls. ;)

:)

I support the stand that fish that are non native should not be released in the wild. Here in the Caribbean many farmers were encouraged to branch out to shrimp and talipia farming. Now these foreign species out compete the native species in the waterways. Species imported for aquariums like terapins are cute at the start, however they will grow large and are piscivores. While I do not support goverment regulations telling me what I am not allowed to keep or breed I and others realise that many local spceies are being lost.

Thanks to everybody supporting the cause! Never release your aquarium fish into the wild!
