I think that if we, fish keepers, do not act with responsibility, then we will soon have a world ban for fish trade… If we cannot stop causing such big damage to our natural environment; then we deserve to be banned.
I think we must also consider damage to natural environment in the places where fish is caught for ornamental purpose.
We may be contributing to some species extinction...

That is exactly the stance we want to take. As long as we keep destroying fish populations, more bans will continue to pop up.

Just because they out grow your 10 gallon tank doesnt give you the right to trow "johnny" or "jamie" into your local lake..simply give it away to a local fish store

Can't Agree with you guys more. I currently go to school in Daytona Beach and not too far from there is Blue Spring State park. We are currently researching there and at certain times of the year the place is covered with plecos they munch up all the algae which is the habitat and food source of a indigenous species of snail the cincinnatia parva (if I spelled it wrong I'm sorry). Why because some people released them into the wild along with other fish Florida has numerous species of fish in its water ways all because of the aquarium trade. If only people would get the common sense to not release fish into the wild. the pleco has done major damage to Mexico's ecosystems and Florida may very well follow suit. Crying Shame

it would be better to nail their heads to a pole then snap them in half with brute force... than to release them into the wild

you saw a common carp, native fish

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL: carp native :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:
carp not a native fish. they were brought to the us as a game fish in the 1870s i believe. they are native in Europe and Asia. carp cause major problems to many water systems, (like the pond near my house :irked::irked:). but they were introduced as a game fish. but unlike Europeans not many Americans like to fish for carp, so they just populated and spread throughout the entire us. is was also thought that they would stay in the warmer waters where they were introduced but they adapted and now can survive in cold water.

yeah i wrote a paper for school on invasive carp.

I agree! most of your local pet stores will take anything (Sometimes buy them from you) I live in southeaster louisiana, and we have canals here, and sometimes at night you can catch people just dumping their fishtanks into the canal. Ive stopped and told people about petstores, and have even taken fish off their hands, but unless a law is passed or fines are issued, its not going to stop. :cry:

100000000% right homeZ people that released snakeheads are so dumb those fish were da bomb now i have to take my sorry *** all the way up to L.A and hope someone has a snakehead in the swapmeet.. i used to be able to buy one from my local vendor. =(
