I didnt know there was any FW puffers. That would be a sweet fish to keep. Any idea on what kind of puffer it is?

Monotrete/Tetraodon Turgidus (Brown Puffer) from the Mekong Basin in Thailand. Very Nice.
It is more active at twighlight and is a hunter not a lurker. Grows to around 6".

Do you have any more pics Jer?

Nice lookin' little guy! Great pick-up! How active is he? If he will only grow to be 6", isn't a 55 a bit big for him alone?

He is a great little guy! Full of spunk for sure!! Chases my finger around the glass already and he is only MAYBE 2.5". Awesome fish 100%! Very active, seems like the only time he is sitting still is when his belly is so full he can't swim. Really gives the word 'glutton' a new definition.

Why would a 55gal be too large for him solo? It gives him more room to stretch and be active, and it doesn't bother me any. As for now it will be his/hers tank. :)

davo ~ no new pictures man. I need to get some though. When the sun is setting it comes in through the window and lights him up...just gorgeous yellow color now. :D

Thank ya'll!!! :nilly:

No, not keeping it with anything at all right now. A complete 55gal all for itself. Kinda funny since its only 2.5". This little bugger is an AGGRESSIVE punk though!! Chases my finger around the glass, always front and center wanting more food. Geez. I am a little worried to do a water change. Totally tore up a couple of feeder gold fish, so I think this is definately a solo fish. ha

Yes, it is FW, as far as I know anyway. :)

lol i have two about 4in and fat buggers. Like you said they just tear through their food. Their teeth are like razors. Doing a water chang aint to bad though , they really are more afraid of you but still DO NOT take your eyes off of them lol they are not to be trusted.

Awesome!! I see you have them in a divided tank!! Have you ever tried keeping them with anything? I woulda though being so small they would be alright with other fish, but I know MUCH better now!! They are definitely a solitary kind of fish, from my experiences anyway.

We put the both of our Puffers together before but they actually use to just nip at eachother so thats the reason the divider is in. But weve never tried with anything else because A.the petstore said their not good with anything else and B.We seen what it looks like when they eat and just knew that putting them with anything else would not be good. Although the day we bought them i knew nothing about them and i petted it head to feel what it felt like and the guy at the store was shocked and said it wasnt a good idea.

So does your puffer require a brackish environment?
