Not rare any more. I assume due to the massive inbreeding/overbreeding/poor breeding of cons, males with orange are becoming more common. Seen it quite a few times in the last six months or so.

Females may have the orange spots and it is normal for some of them(google:Archocentrus nigrofasciatus orange). Not due to inbreeding although, yes, this fish has been inbred alot.

i have had one male that had few orange spots on sides. this fish was actually a male and bred several times and produced live fries.

I have a female that has no red at all, she has spawned 3 or 4 times. I bought her as a male, after several weeks I bought another "Male" and these two spawned.
