if you still have the new water in the tank test it.Mypoly's survived a week w/o filteration or heater temp was 77F.Chlorine shouldn't kill them that fast. There has to be another issue.had it rained recentlly before the waterchange? do you regularly check your tap/ source water?-Anne

right now I'm thinking possible temp.shock

I'm thinking it's from the chlorine more than the temperature and no rain. I haven't checked the tap in LA here. Sometimes I forget that there's a difference from where I used to live and here since they're only 30 miles apart.

sorri for the loss, but believe it or not, I didnt have any filtration in my tank before (but I did now), and they were 7 bichirs lived in it, I did regular water changed, and the water had lots of chlorine in it too; But still my bichirs lives till now; with water contains chlorine in it, bichirs would still able to breathe (a bit hard); I would say bichirs still tough enough with nasty water conditions. As for now everytime I chance the water I always add anti chlorine in it,
so there must be something else goin on when you did the water change,..
cheers

Chlorine doesn't kill instantly is actually a rahter slow process. You really should check
your source water at least 4x a year winter, spring, summer and fall (first one with a james Taylor reference is getting infracted lol) and after heavy rains muni water
supplies often add extra chemicals after rains and sometimes thru the year just
as a precaution and to wipe out any ''bugs''in the system also try to get hold
of water quality reports.-Anne
