thanks guys sorry for the lag on the response. i broke my ankle.....so im no doing anything at the moment, but my idea is to remove my gravel from the 55 and do a mix of crushed coral and arogonite sand (however you spell it) i need recommendations on how to do it without endangering the fish with the multiple stacked rocks and such.....and then specific names of simple fish to keep in such a setup? thanks ahead of time

I would just use the agronite sand it is what i have the fish look sweet on it in my tank. as far as removeing gravle i would remove the fish and all the rocks drain the tank pull the gravle lots of work but better than a broken tank.

Just curious, where in Ca. do you have "super hard water"?

Lots of beautiful Africans out there....post the species you like and we will go from there.
as long as you dont mix with S/C.Americans you'll be fine, do what i do have fun get what every you like but,if you like to have a nice colony of cichlids buy them when they are small, let them grow together this way you'll a happy cichlids!!!!
