Never trust a Betta.

Wait, you euthanized a fish for having a tattered tail?
Anywho, I know lots of people who have put Bettas in community tanks. I guess it depends on the individual Betta.

I've also seen a lot of betas in community tanks. Not many people I've talked to had problems with them. I wonder what my Con or FM would do to one...

Both my Betta boys live with Platy of all colors and finage & Oto cats, no issues. Vamp lived with a Opaline Gourami and no issues too.

Maybe u should get a female...

I have a female betta crown in my 10 gallon with Guppies.. i havent seen any death yet.. and she's almost 1 yr old...

I thought about breeding her.. but Male Crowns are EXPENSIVE! I might one of these days.. if she last til summer..

anyways.. try a female.. its not as aggressive... ;)

Only problems I've ever personally seen with bettas in communities have the bettas on the receiving end.
A friend of mine got this great looking large turquoise long finned male one afternoon to replace his recently deceased betta, put it in his ~40 litre with 3 black skirt tetras, couple guppies and platies, same community tank the old betta was in. The next afternoon, we couldn't see him. Found him hiding down behind the sponge filter with all of his fins chewed off. He's in a bowl by himself now.

I keep 2 bettas, a large red short finned male who's possibly the biggest betta I've seen in person, and a large blue female. They're in a 50 litre/13 gallon planted tank with 2 Bolivian rams, a blue ram, 2 honey gouramis, a pair of 4cm angel fish, 2 bristlenose and 16 kribensis fry who are around the 2.5cm/1" mark. My 'growout and miscelaneous' tank. Plant growth and 50% water change every second day keeps nitrate at about 10ppm.
The only fish in the tank I've seen with even slightly nipped fins is the big male betta.

Ive got 10 bettas in my community tank, two of em males. They all get along fine. Oddest thing though, we had one female we had to separate, she would tear the males up every time she saw them.

I had a betta in my parent's overstocked 30 gallon (seriously, 50 fish at one point) when I was a kid. He attacked our 5"across angelfish and was subsequently eaten by the dwarf gourami.

I'm thinking about moving my betta into a bigger tank and getting him some buddies, maybe a ghost shrimp...but what else would he not attack?

Bettas will fight with each other and other labyrinth fish (gouramis) if kept in close quarters, and have a habit of picking on anything colorful or with flowing fins, as it might be an adversary. Just depends on the fish really.

Even though they are tiny, they are still carnivores. Important not to forget that.
